Fee Tompkins Funeral
This will be on Wednesday 8th February 2.30pm at Pishill Church, Pishill, RG9 6HJ. The family have requested no black clothing to be worn, bright clothing rather than dark. No flowers but photographs with comments on the reverse are welcomed. Donations to charity on the day.
Thanks from Sonia
Thank you to all the church family here at Christ Church for your love prayers and support over the past couple weeks. I am convinced that without this I would not have got through the ordeal of my nephew's tragic accident and taking his funeral. Thank you for the many cards, flowers, kind words and food too. Special thanks for the ginger flapjacks whose "calorie count is completely wiped out if you have experienced any form of loss". Again - thank you. Sonia Barron
Bethany Ladies' Fellowship
This month’s Bethany Ladies’ Fellowship will be very interesting. We’re meeting from 10-12am on wed 8 Feb in the back of church (venue change), and welcoming Richard and Shelagh M from our 9am congregation to talk to us about victim support. Bethany is a great place for fellowship and friendship – if you haven’t been before do ring Fran on 9227730 to hear more about it or just turn up on Wednesday.
Memorial Service
There will be a Memorial and Thanksgiving Service for the life of Beryl Weaver on Wednesday 22 February at 2.00 in church.
Congratulations to Tim Bevington
Most of you will be aware of the excellent work Tim Bevington has been doing with our children and families. Tim has been placed with us for three years as a Centre for Youth Ministries student, studying at St. John’s College and on practical placement at Christ Church. This has been a 14 hour a week commitment. After two years with college permission we added a further 5 hours per week to Tim’s portfolio and that has enabled us to have a presence in local schools and for Tim to focus on internal work with our safeguarding systems and the development of new patterns on a Sunday. The PCC was unanimously convinced that Tim’s excellent work had shown that this is the right time to advertise for a full time children and families worker to commence work in July. Tim applied for the post and was interviewed by a PCC appointed panel on Wednesday night with authority to offer the appointment if appropriate. That offer has been made verbally and accepted subject to written confirmation and contract. We are (I am as Vicar) incredibly excited about this and see it as a very significant step forward. Please pray for Tim as he prepares to take up this extended role resourcing and enabling our children’s work later in the year.

10.45am Service Coffee
Do you enjoy a morning cuppa before and after the 10:45 service? If so please could you consider helping on the rota to serve drinks at the 10:45 service? We have no one to cover the 2nd Sunday of each month at the moment and would love to find a couple of people who could take this on. Please speak to Louise R after the service for more details.
"Way in" Course - 22nd Feb - 14th March
Have you joined us in the past 6-9 months? We believe that Christ Church is a great church to belong to. It is a busy
bustling church with many activities and with a large variety of services and activities and it can be a bit mind blowing for those who are new to us. With 350 different people in the regular church family it is also quite hard to get to know everybody. ‘Way In’ is a short course that will help you understand Christ Church better by getting to know us and getting to know a smaller group who are in the same position as you. It takes place at the vicarage over four Wednesdays beginning on February 22nd and each evening starts with an excellent meal. If you have filled in a welcome card you should receive an invitation through the post. If not and you have joined us recently you are invited. Ask a staff member for a program or email office@christchurchchilwell.org.uk or leave a message on 9222809.

Church chair lift
Chair lift to the Upper Room: In the annual inclusion audit the chair lift was discussed and it was agreed that:
it does not provide full disabled access (for which a lift would be needed)
there is a safety issue - recently a child was hurt by falling on the stairs into the chair lift rails.
It has not been used in the last 3 years
It is unreliable and prone to breakdown
It is obsolete - if it needs repair there are no parts for it
It was also noted that there is no legal requirement to provide access to the upper room and we have other meeting rooms that are accessible. Given these considerations Standing Committee has agreed that we remove the chair lift and replace it with a handrail. All room bookings are managed flexibly – if there are people with mobility needs in a particular group, this group is given priority for the lower rooms. If you have questions about this please ask our wardens, Penelope W and Tim E.
Thank you.
Rotas January to April
Please note current rotas can be found on the church website and include Themes, Preachers and Leaders, Organists, Communion, Prayers and Readers.
The access log in and password will be emailed to those who are currently on the church rotas and have an email address.
For any further information on the access of rotas or obtaining a paper copy please contact Kerry in the office on 9222809
Christmas Feedback
Ok I know it already seems ages ago. So many of you worked really hard to make Christmas 2011 a great success. Attendances at the Carol Service, Christmas Eve and Christmas Days services were at record
level. This kind of team success comes when we all work together and thank you for whatever part you played. Obviously we want to do even better in 2012 as one way to do that is for you to give us any ideas and feed back that you have whilst it is still fresh in your mind.
What worked for you?
What could have worked better with a bit of tweaking?
What things have you seen elsewhere that could work here?
In particular what do you think would be the best timing for the Christingle Service and do we hold it too early?
How would you feel about having it midweek?
Give any feedback to the office or to a member of staff. On a personal note another thank you to all those that supported our son Matthew at a fantastic and worship filled wedding service on December 17th. It was a special day for them and us.

Safeguarding Training
Here at Christ Church we are committed to providing a fun, loving and safe environment for everyone. In order to do this we need to keep up to date with the safe guarding policy of the diocese. This is why we are hosting two evenings of safe guarding training provided by the diocese.
They will take place on Tuesday 31st January and Tuesday 7th February from 7.30pm -10pm.
If you are involved in the children's and/or youth work in the Church, please put both these dates in the diary. By keeping up to date with the diocesan policy and training we are all helping to provide the safest environment for our young people here at Church.
For more information please speak to Debbie C or Tim Bevington

Praying for others
We'd love to grow the teams who pray for people before, during and after our Sunday worship services in Christ Church at 9am, 10.45 and 7pm. For new and existing members, training is provided and you would be part of a supportive team who provide this valuable ministry, which includes healing, prophecy, encouragement and comfort. You don't need any previous experience or ‘expertise', just a heart to pray for others. If you think you might want serve in this way and would like to explore and find out more then please contact Fran Beedell (email) or talk to one of the service leaders, or prayer ministry team members after one of the Sunday
services.
Notice Sheet
In order to help the 9am, 10.45 and 7pm teams incorporate church family notices smoothly into each service and make them as relevant and age appropriate as possible, please can any notices be emailed to the church office by midday on Thursday of each week? Thanks
Lost Property
Please claim any lost property over the newt few weeks. We have a number of very nice coats and other items of clothing left in church over the Christmas period. All unclaimed items will be given to charity at the end of January. Thank you
Thank You
Mike & Margaret want to say a huge THANK YOU to all at Christ Church who have been praying for us during this difficult time as Mike receives treatment for his cancer. Mike has just completed phase 3 of the 12 phases of the chemotherapy course. It is so comforting to know that so many are praying for us and this support greatly helps us to stay positive and up-beat. Thank you once again and we would like to take this opportunity of wishing you all a Very Happy New Year.
Yours in Christ Jesus
Mike & Margaret R.
Church Keys Amnesty
Due to the high cost of cutting additional sets of church property keys please could you have a good search around at home for unwanted church keys. There have been a large number of keys used over the Christmas period and we urge you to return them to the Church Office as soon as possible. Please only keep church property keys if you require access to the building on a regular basis. Thank you.

I am very grateful to Janet S and Gail W who have agreed to take on the co ordination of Christian Aid collecting in Christ Church. In a few weeks you will all be hearing from them. Thank you to all who have helped me during my two year stint in the role. Penny W.
