Friends Comedy Supper Event

A comedy supper event is planned for Saturday 28th April in Church, suitable for bringing friends to be have fun and to hear about the forthcoming Christianity Explored Course. Invitation cards will be provided but warn your friends now. Details from George Russell or the office.

Abseiling the Tower of Dudley Castle

I am taking part in a sponsored abseil down the tower of Dudley Castle on 29th April. This is to help raise money for our explorer scout unit so that we can run an exchange trip with a group of Portuguese explorer scouts. They came to the UK last year, and our unit are planning on going out to Portugal this summer. A significant part of the challenge for us is to run a whole range of different events and activities through the year to raise the money required for the exchange. I will be at the back of church at the morning services this Sunday. Please sponsor us if you can. Thank you Adrian Clarke

Christian Aid Tea Party

"Afternoon Tea" in the Church Hall Lounge on Saturday 28th April, 3pm till 5pm. Come and Enjoy a chat with a cup of tea and cake. All proceeds to Christian Aid. Everyone Welcome!

Called to Care

This is a basic pastoral course for all those involved in any way in caring for others in the church and in our day to day life. The next one will start on Thursday April 19th at st Helen's Stapleford, at 7.30 and will run for six weeks, and covers all aspects of listening and boundaries in pastoral caring. Christian Aid Week 13th-19th May 2012

Collectors Needed, please sign up on the lists at the back of the Church as soon as possible. Collectors must be over 16 years of age, but if you are under 16 and would like to help with the collecting, we can “buddy” you up with an adult collector. Envelopes etc., will be available shortly so please keep an eye on the Christian Aid table at the back of church. Gail Weaver

Bereavement Tea Afternoon

All who have been bereaved for any amount of time are welcome to our monthly coffee mornings and tea afternoons. Tuesday 17th April we will be in the church lounge from 2.00pm to 3.30pm and you are very welcome to have a coffee and a chat with our very friendly team. Watering flowers

Help required with watering flowers during the week. For many years Pam Olson has faithfully watered the flowers every week so I would like to say a big thank you to Pam for this. We could do with some additional people to form a team to cover when Pam is on holiday and to water flower arrangements on additional days during the week, especially during the warmer weather. AGM Meeting Monday 16th April

The AGM meeting will be held in Christ Church on Monday 16th April at 7.30pm where we will elect 2 Deanory Synod representatives and 4 PCC representatives. This will also be a meeting for the election of churchwardens. Please pick up nomination forms at the back of church. Thank you.

Petitions and counter petitions

Following a lot of feedback from the congregation the staff, vicar and wardens have been discussing whether or not our written, web, spoken notices and Sunday services are the right place to advertise petitions and counter petitions. The issue has been placed on the agenda for the PCC and the vicar and wardens have agreed a temporary pause from all petitions until that discussion has happened. There is often no one simple Christian position on complex issues and not enough time in the context of a Sunday to understand the full implications of signing something. We encourage Christian individuals to feel free to be engaged in current affairs, to lobby and to invite others to take part. Thank you The Wardens

Help needed with Inspire

If you have an hour to spare before the Sunday evening service, do you fancy cooking (and eating) some pizza with Inspire? We're looking for volunteers to help out once or twice a month for the summer term while Jenny and Chris Brignell and Helen and Shaun Crandley take a sabbatical as they're both expecting babies (How exciting!). We meet on Sundays from 6pm-7pm in the church lounge to eat pizza and every other week hear someone from the congregation share their story before heading on to the evening service. April Quiz Night

The return of the very popular Quiz Night will be on Saturday April 14th beginning at 7-30pm. The cost will be £9.00 for a team of up to 6 people. This includes a ham or cheese roll at half time, and you bring your own drinks and nibbles and the very important joker. A.R.K Acts of Random Kindness David Moreton and his wife Sharon Moreton-Evans have taken over the stock of the Christian Book Centre in Beeston. A.R.K are offering an ordering service with FREE delivery in this area using their own couriers. They are also hoping to open a shop in Nottingham.

Small Groups

Thank you to all those who have already filled in the form to tell us if you are in a small group, or if you want to be in one. More importantly, we would like to know about those of you who don't feel they can regularly commit to a group but would like to be linked to one for prayer and support. One of our values as a church is based on our small group network as the main place for pastoral support so it's vital that everyone is linked in to one if at all possible. Being linked to a group would not put any time burden on you except to keep the group up to date with prayer and practical needs. If you would like to be in a group week by week and you are not in one already, please please fill in the form and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you so much, Fran and Chris.

Soul Survivor Volunteer required

"The Inspire Youth Group are looking for a couple of willing adults to take them to Soul Survivor Week A from July 27-August 4 at Stafford Showground this summer. There are 7 of us hoping to go, and 3 of us will be 18 by then, but SS rules require at least one over 18 for every 6 under 18s. We're all willing to help with cooking and washing up etc. If anyone's interested could they contact Jeremy C

10.45am Service Coffee

Do you enjoy a morning cuppa before and after the 10:45 service? If so please could you consider helping on the rota to serve drinks at the 10:45 service? We have no one to cover the 2nd Sunday of each month at the moment and would love to find a couple of people who could take this on. Please speak to Louise R after the service for more details.

Organising a Christ Church Event?

There is now a selection of flyer templates available on the website to download if you are organising a church event. Simply download the flyer of your choice and edit it on your computer using PowerPoint. If there is a type of flyer you can't find, just let the office know and we will upload one. If you have any queries about this facility, please contact the office.

Church chair lift

Chair lift to the Upper Room: In the annual inclusion audit the chair lift was discussed and it was agreed that: it does not provide full disabled access (for which a lift would be needed) there is a safety issue - recently a child was hurt by falling on the stairs into the chair lift rails. It has not been used in the last 3 years It is unreliable and prone to breakdown It is obsolete - if it needs repair there are no parts for it It was also noted that there is no legal requirement to provide access to the upper room and we have other meeting rooms that are accessible. Given these considerations Standing Committee has agreed that we remove the chair lift and replace it with a handrail. All room bookings are managed flexibly – if there are people with mobility needs in a particular group, this group is given priority for the lower rooms. Please note current rotas can be found on the church website and include Themes, Preachers and Leaders, Organists, Communion, Prayers and Readers. The access log in and password will be emailed to those who are currently on the church rotas and have an email address. Praying for others

We'd love to grow the teams who pray for people before, during and after our Sunday worship services in Christ Church at 9am, 10.45 and 7pm. For new and existing members, training is provided and you would be part of a supportive team who provide this valuable ministry, which includes healing, prophecy, encouragement and comfort. You don't need any previous experience or ‘expertise', just a heart to pray for others. If you think you might want to serve in this way and would like to explore and find out more, then please contact Fran Beedell (email) or talk to one of the service leaders, or prayer ministry team members after one of the Sunday services.
